Betabox Update / April

The team at Betabox has been consistently rockin’ it over the last few weeks. Here is an update on what we’ve been up to.

Betabox Experiences: All time peak volume
We’ve successfully delivered 25 Experiences over the past five weeks between our southeast business and Betabox Lab Services customers. Three of these Experiences took place all on the same day, which is a record for us.
These recent Experiences really put the Anywhere in our slogan Create Anywhere, having taken place in Greenville SC, Seattle, Austin, San Diego, Sacramento, and even Laramie, WY.
We've welcomed a new team member!
We’re excited to be welcoming Amanda Franklin (prev: Google Fiber) to the team as our Project Coordinator. She is helping build a culture of world-class client relations and operational excellence.
Logistics: We've insourced logistics.
A line in ’Delivering Happiness’ by Tony Hsieh has stuck with me for years:
‘Never outsource your core competency.’
One of the most magical differentiators Betabox provides customers is the ability to deploy hands-on learning experiences truly anywhere.
But historically we’ve relied heavily on 3rd party transportation companies to move our labs. This has limited our operating range and kept prices on the higher side.
This month we have eliminated our dependence on 3rd party transport by acquiring more trucks, trailers, and a full time driver.
We are also learning how to monetize these assets during downtimes by moving freight for other companies. This strategy allows us to more rapidly insource fleet transportation while hedging against sales seasonality.
Engineering: New warehouse & new BXA
Like our logistics, we have chosen to do all of our lab manufacturing in house in order to better control cost, timelines, and the end product.
This choice has led us to lease a 2,500 sqft warehouse just south of Downtown Raleigh where all new Betaboxes are being produced.
Within three weeks of moving in, we shipped a new BXA (dubbed ‘Curie’) out to Greenville, SC.
We are currently wrapping up a BXB project for the MilliporeSigma Curiosity Cube (press release), and will be starting another BXA build right after that is finished.
How can I help?
Right now our focus is on heads-down execution and successful delivery of all upcoming Experiences. That said, Greg is always looking for new leads, Amanda would love a ‘Welcome to the team!’ note, and I would love to know your favorite restaurant in Austin.
All for now, see you next time.
